Plain English

An updated version of your Notice of Assessment that CRA sends when something changes — like if you forgot a slip or CRA audited your return.

Technical definition

A Notice of Reassessment supersedes the original Notice of Assessment when new information arises, a taxpayer files an adjustment request, or an audit is conducted. It may change the tax payable, contribution limits, or benefit entitlements. The reassessment restarts the objection clock for the revised items.

Examples

  • You forgot to report a $2,000 T5 interest slip. After filing an adjustment, CRA issues a Notice of Reassessment showing $300 more tax owing.
  • CRA audits your home-office expenses and issues a reassessment disallowing $1,500, increasing your tax by $445.
